London Collections Men SS16 | Highlights

Friday June 12th saw the start of the London Collections: Men’s showcase. The event plays host to some of the best British menswear designers around, showcasing emerging talent as well as collections from established brands. Whilst the dust may have settled on the runway until the next event, here is a round up of my personal favourites from the  Spring/Summer 2016 shows.

day one.

Starting with day one, my highlight from the day was from Universal Works. Renowned for their quality and premium materials, the collection from Universal Works is primarily made up of Navy and Tan coloured pieces. Whilst the collection doesn’t necessarily scream Spring or Summer at first glance, it is very wearable, and features tailored shorts, a bomber jacket for those warmer days and loose-fitting chinos, perfect for bridging the daytime to night time gap. Whether the collection is worn as a whole or as just individual pieces, Universal Works have showcased a timeless collection featuring garments which you can wear for years to come.

day two.

For day two I couldn’t pick between YMC and Soulland so have featured both instead! First, YMC. The large collection from YMC had a bit of something for everyone really, didn’t it? Combining a mix of military-inspired pieces through to streetwear and nautical-inspired everyday wear, the collection takes influences from the past and combines them with the minimalist feel YMC is known for. Suede swim caps, drop waist boiler suits and malleable jackets, this collection was about texture, materials and premium quality to confirm YMC as a leader in menswear.

Next up, we have Copenhagen-based Soulland. This collection was a lot more casual and worked really well together. It featured many items for everyday wear including various jackets, tailored shorts and denim, I especially like the cream varsity-style bomber jacket. Again, not entirely ‘summer inspired’ but overall, a good collection.

day three.

Margaret Howell (Men’s) is by far my favourite of all the shows during LCM. Once again following the military green, tan, white trends you can tell a lot of effort and thought has gone into what works well together, the result being a collection of layer up on layer of timeless pieces. The below looks are my favourite from the show. The combination between oversized tailoring and more casual pieces such as the parkas and rain jackets are a great contrast and show how diverse some of these pieces can be.
