Hand Heroes

The constant change in temperature can play havoc with our skin. If you are anything like me and suffer with dry skin, one thing that always feels dry first are our hands. As I spend a lot of my day exposed to the elements, the cold weather and wind and rain can leave my skin and in particular, my hands feeling dry and rough. In fact, if I don’t look after my hands, they get so dry to the point that my skin cracks and bleeds, which is not fun. Luckily, over the years I’ve come to learn which products work best for me.

When it comes to hand creams I look for three things; It has to do the job, be super hydrating and absorb quickly – I really don’t like any type of skincare product that just sits there or feels greasy or tacky.

I always make sure I have the Vanilla & Orange Peel Hand Cream from Grown Alchemist on hand during the colder days. Not only does it do everything I need it too, it also smells amazing. I’m currently working my way through a 300ml bottle which I keep on my desk,  but it’s also available in the Amenity Kit which I featured many moons ago here, if you do fancy giving some of the other Grown Alchemist products a try.

Next up is the Aesop Resurrection Aromitique Hand Balm which I have just repurchased. Much like the one from Grown Alchemist, the formula is nice and thick and absorbs fast into the skin leaving your hands smooth and hydrated. The handy tube means that its something you can keep on your office drawer or in the car for when you need it.

The Resurrection hand care range from Aesop also features a Hand Wash and a sanitising Rinse-Free Hand Wash which is great for on the go in the classic Mediterranean scent. I honestly don’t think there is a Aesop product that I don’t like.

So there you have it. What are your favourite products for looking after your hands?

Hand Luggage Only

FullSizeRender-4.jpgFullSizeRender-6.jpg

When going away on a city break, travelling with just hand luggage can save time and money. Not only does having no hold luggage help keep your costs to a minimum, there’s no need to check in baggage or wait for it on the other side either, taking out some of the stress which is associated with travelling.

I’m heading to Paris this week for a couple of days and have hand luggage only so thought I would share with you the essentials that are coming along for the ride.

With carry on luggage its important to be organised. Before you start to pack you should know your restrictions, have a list of what you will need during your stay and be prepared to be ruthless. As I’m only there for a couple of days Im planning on taking the minimum.

When it comes to clothes it’s hard to decide what to take and what to leave behind. With the risk of over packing I’m going to try and pack a capsule wardrobe – things that can be co-ordinated to produce numerous outfits. I’ve being waiting for the right time to break out both my new A.P.C ‘Oh L’amour’ shirt and Common Projects so Paris seems like the perfect opportunity to wear them. The Common Projects are great for that smart-casual look. With the heavier items such as coats and jackets, I will be travelling in them to save space. The pockets can also be used to store items such as your documents and devices in so that they are on hand and don’t take up any extra space or weight in your case either.

With toiletries it’s important to stick to the 100ml rule whilst travelling or risk these being disposed of at security. All toilettires should fit in one plastic pouch so its important to take only what you need. There a number of good quality travel kits out there, the ones from Aēsop are always my go to’s, but you can also pick a few bits up in the airport should you not want to pack anything.

Other things I don’t travel without are my Mulberry passport holder wallet. This has multiple pockets and a zipped back to keep all my documents and tickets safe and finally a good guide book.  Flying can provide a good time to plan your trip and what you want to get out of it and these Cereal Guides are a great source of inspiration.

I don’t have massive plans for my short trip yet but I’m quite excited to just take to as it comes.

5 to Try this Season

FullSizeRender.jpg

When the temperature starts to drop outside we need to take extra care of our skin to prevent the elements drying it out. Winter can cause havoc with our skin; cold conditions can strip skin of its natural moisture causing redness and irritation if we don’t take the steps prior to winter proof our skin.

To keep you complexion bright and clear its important to have a skincare routine in place,  morning and at night.

I’m always on the look out for new products to try and introduce into my routine. Whether they are new releases on the market or products that have been recommended, I’m a bit of a skincare junkie so will give most things a go. Below I have rounded up some of the products I have been recently trying this winter so far.

BLACK-PEPPER-BERGAMOT-SHOWER-GEL.jpg

First up is the new Black Pepper & Bergamot Shower Gel* by MEN-Ü. The combination of spicy black pepper & fresh bergamot citrus is ideal for this time of year. The scent is warm and comforting yet invigorating and fresh, it really wakes you up in a good way on a cold morning. The ultra concentrated formula means a little goes a long way, creating a rich lather in the process. What’s better is this Shower Gel comes free as part as the MEN-Ü styling gift sets – perfect for gifting this Christmas. lab_5JP1_180.png

Next up is the Maximum Matte Renewal Lotion by Lab Series. Whilst I wouldn’t say my skin is oily, this moisturiser for oily-prone skin is my new favourite product. This dual action lotion not only mattifies your skins appearance with it’s ILLUMATTE™ technology, the Molecular Age-Less Complex™ formula reduces the visible appearance of signs of ageing, leaving your skin with an all round glow.

Aesop has always been a favourite of mine. Over the years I have tried so many of their products. I accidentally purchased this Rejuvanate Intensive Body Balm instead of my normal Rind Concentrate Body Balm so thought I would give it a try insteadDuring the winter months I suffer with dry skin, especially on my upper arms so its important for me to find a body lotion that works and this seems to be so far so good.  I probably wouldn’t switch from my go-to, but its good to switch it up sometimes.age_defender_eye_repair_15ml_2

The Age Defender Eye Repair is just one product in Kiehl’s new Age Defender line. Enriched with Rye Seed Extract to help strengthen skin, the Eye Repair is designed to help visibly correct aging skin around the eye and crow’s feet area and reduce the appearance of dark circles for a smoother, more youthful look. I’ve never used a eye cream religiously before so I will be interested to see how this one goes on and see if I notice visible results.

Finally, the last product I have been using lately is the Gravity Mud Firming Treatment mask by GLAMGLOW. I had seen this product sometime ago  and was intrigued by it, so when I was in Dubai airport duty-free and spotted it, I couldn’t help myself!  The peel off mask transforms from a bright white to a chrome as it dries and leaves you with bright (slightly red), firm skin.

Have you tried any of these products? What are you currently loving?

No matter how hard you try, theres no avoiding it, so what better way to embrace the festive season by getting your shopping list in check.

Autumn Favourites

Now that Halloween is just around the corner, I’ve finally had to accept that Summer is well and truly over and that Autumn is here. With Thailand only a distant memory, I have ultimately packed my shorts away for another year and dug out some of my trusty Autumnal favourites.

FullSizeRender-1.jpg

For me Autumn is about being comfortable. It’s not quite cold enough to be wearing multiple layers just yet, but it’s also not warm enough to just be sporting a t-shirt. Autumn is all about sweaters, chunky knits and if your an Instagram pro, the pumpkin-spiced latte.

For this post I have put together a mix of old and new to show you whats going to be keeping me going this Autumn…

Acne Studios College Face Sweater (similar) This Acne Studios sweater has been a staple in my wardrobe for a year and a half now. It was the first item of Acne clothing I purchased and still remains my favourite. I haven’t worn it for a good 5 months now so now is the perfect time to get it back in my rotation.

Dior Sauvage Eau de Toilette 100ml I picked up the latest fragrance from Dior in duty free on the way home from my last trip. I had wanted it for a while but never got around to buying it. I hate buying fragrances as I change my mind so often; but after testing this again at the airport I knew it was the one for me. I wanted something that combined the fresh, sweet scent of Gypsy Water with the woody fragrance of Aesop’s Tacit and this one does it perfectly.

Topman Scarf Although it’s not entirely scarf weather just yet. When I set off early for work during the week a scarf is a must! I picked this chunky knit scarf up from Topman last year just before I went to Iceland so it’s not a recent purchase but I still love how warm and comfortable it is.

Aésop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm 75ml This hand cream has become a firm favourite over the past couple of years. During the colder months it can be a life saver if you have naturally dry skin. Through work my hands used to get so dry to the point they would crack and bleed so any products that keep my skin hydrated is a win in my books. This hand balm from Aésop not only does just that, but it also is non greasy, fast absorbing and smells great.

Form & Thread Socks  Since I last featured Form & Thread on here, the brand have ventured out into a line of essential t-shirts, sweatshirts and shirts to add to their ever-growing sock selection. These Triple Twisted Yarn socks are the ideal partner to this seasons rising trouser hems.

What are your Autumn essentials?
