Spring Clean your Skincare Routine

FullSizeRender.jpg.jpeg

Now we are officially in spring it’s not just our wardrobes that need a spring clean. A new season means a new skin-care routine.

Despite what the weather looks like as I type this, temperatures are set to rise over the upcoming months, so now is the perfect time to start prepping your skin for the season ahead. With that in mind, I have put this quick guide together to show you how you can also get the best results out of your skin this spring..

Exfoliate

During winter our skin is exposed to extreme conditions. A season of cold weather, rain and wind can leave our skin dull, dry and with a build up of dead skin cells. Exfoliating a couple of times a week will help get rid of that dead winter skin leaving your skin feeling bright and fresh. I’m currently using the Tom Ford Exfoliating Energy Scrub which is not only good at removing all those impurities, but it also smells really good and leaves your skin feeling full of life and refreshed.

Mask

To return some of the moisture lost during winter, use a face mask a couple of times a week.  This will leave your skin feeling hydrated and smooth. There are so many masks available at the moment so with a bit of trial and error I’m sure you can find the one which is most suitable for your skin. I’m currently using the limited edition GLAMGLOW ‘Sonic Blue’ Gravitymud.

Moisturise

To finish off your skin care routine try switching out your heavy moisturiser for a lighter oil-free moisturiser. The Lab Series Matte Renewal Lotion was my favourite discovery of 2016. Not only is it lightweight and hydrating, but it leaves your skin feeling completely matte and dry to the touch. I can’t recommend it enough!

Eyes

The brighter days can play havoc with our eyes. Now is the perfect time to be investing in a good pair of sunglasses and an eye cream to protect our eyes from UV rays. It will also help keeping those wrinkles which are caused by squinting at bay. As I get older I’m much more interested in anti-aging products so something like Kiehl’s Age Defender Eye Repair is my eye cream of choice. The Eye Repair is designed to  visibly reduce crows feet and firm skin around the eyes. It also helps to reduce the appearance of dark circles for a smoother, more youthful appearance. Now that I am approaching 30, ithere has never been a more  perfect time to start using more anti-aging products to help slow down the effects of getting older.

SPF

Applying sunscreen is another quick win to avoid skin damage caused by the sun. As mentioned above, the sun can damage our skin. When the weather is still mild you may not be able to feel how strong the sun actually is but after months spent under layers of clothing, spring is a high risk time for sun damage. Applying sunscreen is a must.  As the name suggests the higher the number or factor is, the better the sun protection is. I’ve been using the Aesop Protective Body Lotion SPF50 for some time now,  in fact instead of me going into the details, you can read my full review here.

Fragrance

Finally, spring is the perfect time to switch out your fragrances. I always find I wear more spicy fragrances during the colder months and am drawn to more fresh scents in the spring and summer. I’m currently using the Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir Cologne which combines both of these qualities I love – mixing peppery notes with fruity scents –  so it’s a complete win-win for me!

Wishlist 8 – Add some Spring to your wardrobe.

MHL. by Margaret Howell Basic Tee in mint (£65) // Vans Vault OG Authentic LX in classic white/safari (£55) // Our Legacy Bolly Tee in pink (£85) // Topman Stretch Skinny Jeans in washed blue (£30) // A.P.C Novak Crew Sweat in grey marl (£119) // Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Hi II in white (£60) // Common Projects Chelsea Boot in tan (£315)

Spring is here and theres not a sign of black in sight. I know I’m kinda shocked myself, the colour black feels comfortable, it’s safe and you can’t really go wrong with it. For SS16, the monochromatic uniform of last summer has been long forgotten; replaced with a hue of pastel shades.

Taking style tips from the scandinavians, I have curated my current favourites for this post; to show you what I’ll be taking inspiration from in the upcoming months. Whether worn together or mixed with existing items in your wardrobe, this set of classic Spring items would make great additions to anyones wardrobe. So let’s get started..

First up are these simple tees from MHL. and Our legacy in mint and pink. I don’t think I have ever worn anything in either of these colours before, I’m not even sure if I could pull off a pink shirt but these shades are fairly washed out and not garish in anyway, so who knows. Even if it’s just for a hint of colour under the A.P.C Novak sweater, these tees are certain to brighten up your wardrobe.

Next up are the light wash jeans from Topman. I’m not opposed to blue jeans, my blue Nudie jeans are the comfiest pair that I own, I just go for a black pair 9 times out of 10. I’ve been searching for the perfect pair of ripped, washed blue jeans for a while now. Although these Topman ones don’t feature any rips, they are the closest I have found to the colour I am after and I’m sure I can achieve the look I’m after with a pair of scissor and some sand paper.

As for shoes, the Common Projects Chelsea Boots have featured on previous wishlists and I’m still pretty much in love with them, but at £315, I’m yet to take the plunge as I know I will probably ruin them on first wear!

I have also included pairs of ‘white’ Converse and Vans as they’re summer staples. Although described as white, they’re more of a vintage off white colour and will look great whether dressed up or down.

Last but not least I really want some slim fitting, cropped navy chinos for smarter occasions, they’re not pictured above but I already have this pair in black and they fit great!

What do you think of my Spring picks?

COMME des GARÇONS PLAY and Converse continue their collaboration with the release of the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star ’70 later this month. The release will come in both this vintage-white colour and a black option; and is available as both a high top and low top version. The shoe features the classic Converse Chuck Taylor silhouette but with a vintage makeover and is completed with the brands heart logo to the side of the canvas, as with previous versions. Bound to be a hit this Spring/Summer, the COMME des GARÇONS PLAY x Converse Chuck Taylor All Star’ 70 will be available from mid May at all COMME des GARCONS stores.

Personally, I like to keep things simple so would go for the vintage-white version and as I don’t really wear high tops the low cut silhouette is the ideal one for me.

Which option would you choose?

Following on from the recent collaboration with Tretorn earlier in the year, Publish have teamed up with another footwear brand, Clae, for a collaborative shoe titled “The Natural State”. The casual shoe combines Clae’s Gregory SP silhouette with a beige colorway that is inspired by California’s Joshua Tree National Park landscape. The low-top is crafted from natural Italian vegetable-tanned leather and features perforated panels, woven nylon laces and co-branded insoles. The Natural State also comes wrapped in a custom-made bandana that features Joshua Tree’s geological elevation on it and is limited to 500 pairs, with each box being individually numbered.

The collaborative shoe will be available on April 30th at publishbrand.com and select retailers.
